Associates throughout New Zealand
Associates are women and men of any age, married or single who are attracted to the person and spirit of Mary MacKillop. Associates gather for friendship, for prayer, and to deepen their understanding of Mary MacKillop’s life and spirituality, reflecting on how they can daily live this spirit so as to make a difference in our world.
Through the dedication of Sister Gertrude McGowan (RIP) the Associates in New Zealand flourished. Gertrude travelled extensively throughout the country encouraging and assisting groups during their initial formation.
There are currently fourteen groups who meet regularly in the the North Island - Panguru, Whangarei, Dargaville, Auckland – St Heliers Bay, Mary MacKillop Centre at Mission Bay, Three Kings, Thames, Paeroa, Hamilton, Rotorua, Te Awamutu, Whakatane, Gisborne and Upper Hutt-Wellington.
In the South Island five groups meet regularly - Christchurch, Fairlie, Temuka, Waimate and Dunedin.
The Leadership Team is made up of Associates and Sisters of St Joseph who meet quarterly at the Province Centre at Mission Bay. Members of the Team share tasks, plan ‘happenings’ and circulate Celebratory suggestions.
