MY MINISTRY AT MARIAN REST HOME
In the late 80’s a call was made by the then Province Leader re the need for sisters to volunteer to train to work in our Rest Home. My response was a desire to become involved and so after thirty years of Junior School Teaching, I set on the task of re educating myself and graduated as an Enrolled Nurse. Since then I have worked in Marian Rest Home, Mission Bay.

On this website you will have read Marian Rest Home’s Vision Statement.
Commitment to my Josephite Call to Mission is through my hands-on daily care of each resident and working with management in quality planning, policy updating and team building.
My guiding principles for caring for residents are the valuing of each individual’s uniqueness, being aware and empathetic to the physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs of each resident. I appreciate and value all that the Residents share in return – their life stories, the radiating of their spirituality of faithfulness, patience, love. In this time of ‘waiting’ in the last days of their lives, I am struck again and again by the paradox of strength in weakness and the trials of failing health. I value the times of listening and being with our residents.

My ‘being with’ the Residents is one way of answering the call from our last Chapter “to relieve suffering and bring hope”.
