The sisters at the Morven (South Canterbury) Convent had no means of getting about the district so a kind parishioner gave them a horse and governors cart. The Sisters managed this fine but one wet day a local farmer noticed them travelling along the road and one of the sisters was leaning forward with an umbrella. This mystified the parishioner and on his next meeting with the sisters he asked them to explain what they were doing. “Well”, said Sister, “The gentleman who gave us this horse and cart said never to let the rein get under the tail.”
