SISTERS OF SAINT JOSEPH PERUVIAN PROJECT WINS THE GIFT AWARD 2007

Congratulations, to Amy, to the women of Pitumarca and to Ethica. A hat and scarf set made by the Pitumarca women was awarded first place in the 2007 GIFT Awards in the Most Socially Responsible section. The finger puppet Safari Set was also a finalist for Best Gift Product.
The results were announced on Friday evening in Doltone House, Pyrmont. In accepting the lavender coloured blown-glass trophy Amy spoke powerfully of the project, describing the way that the women receive cash in hand on completion of each item and typically use this money for food and health care and education for the children. As the spotlight followed Amy from the platform the musicians played, ‘What a Wonderful World.’ In Pitumarca today Sr Cathy and the women are celebrating the win.
Amy said "this is Ethica's most meaningful award to date. Alpaca hats and scarves made by the 150 women we support in Pitumarca, Peru, were selected by prestigious judges who represent the $20 billion gift industry. We work hard to make sure our products are truly some of the Most Socially Responsible products in Australia - this Award confirms that for our customers.
Ethica would like to thank Reed Fairs for making these Awards possible." Winners of other Awards included brands such as Pandora Jewellery, Annabel Trends and Britt Design.
