Queensland Celebrations 2009

2009 marks our year of celebration of 100 years since the death of Mary MacKillop. This great woman swept across this land, imbued with the love of God and determined to bring this love to the many needs of Australia in the 19th Century. The rural children became her particular focus as she brought education to many of them. Her humanness, her determination and her certainty that God was with her also made her aware of the many other needs that called. Hence the famous saying Never see a need without doing something about it became her guiding principle. So many people recognize the spirit of this great woman and want to continue her work today. This year is a chance to join with the Queensland Church and the State. As Queenslanders we also celebrate 150 years of the Church in Queensland and of State and Local government. So wherever we are – city, country, tropical north, the gulf - we can make a contribution to this year of celebration.
