Remembering and Celebrating The Closure of the Rosewater Convent

On November 22nd 2008, many of the Sisters, including Sr Marion Gambin,Provincial, came together to share in a ritual of closure of the Convent at Rosewater.

The date, being the Feast of St Cecilia,  was seen by many of the Sisters present to be significant as many students and young people learned music from the Sisters who lived here over the years.

It was recognized that many families, students, parents and parishioners have benefited from the influence and goodness of all our Sisters who have ministered from here. For all that has been achieved through their humble efforts we thank God.

Time was taken to remember all those who have gone before us, those on whose shoulders we now stand, who bore the burden of the day with such love and committement. We thank God for all who have shared their lives with the Sisters; who have helped, inspired and influenced us for good.

Special acknowledgement was made of the great gift of the various Parish Priests, Carmeite Fathers, and the Marist Brothers, who through their generosity and special charisms enriched the lives of the Sisters both personally and in community, along with the great generosity and continuing support of the lay people in the parish and beyond.

Some of the Sisters present shared  the significant memories of their time in community at Rosewater; the ‘joys and sorrows”, the “ups and downs”.

These brought to light the special gifts of love and leadership experienced by those fortunate enough to have been in community over this period of 140 years.

The celebration closed with a shared afternoon tea.
