Victoria Celebrates the News of Mary MacKillop
Sunday, 20th December, 2009

Sisters gathered with the communities at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre, East Melbourne early on Sunday morning, 20th December, 2009. Media enquiries on the morning started at 7am.
Television radio & print journalists & photographers represented the strong interest of the city where Mary was born.
During this busy morning the moving thing was that journalists and photographers were generally excited and interested. They were keen on getting details of the Melbourne connection to the story, as well as tapping into the feeling of the Sisters when they heard the news.
Some were also talking about the Copenhagen news and were fascinated by Julian's campaign for legislation to protect the Tasmanian rain forests. Julian was talking about this in the 1870's at the time when Mary had gathered friends from many religions and many cultures. There was enthusiasm in the realisation that the message from Mary & Julian was ahead of its time.
