Extensions to Shrine in Mary MacKillop Chapel

The Mary MacKillop Memorial
Chapel
Mary MacKillop Place and
in particular the tomb of Mary MacKillop have become a place of
pilgrimage.

The
heart of Mary MacKillop Place is the Memorial Chapel, which holds
the tomb of Mary MacKillop. The numbers of pilgrims visiting the tomb were such that extensions were needed. The rear wall from behind the tomb was moved back to provide such space.
Celebration of the Extensions
On the 10th Anniversary of the Beatification
of Mary MacKillop, 19th January 2005, a large crowd gathered for a special Eucharist and ceremony to bless the extensions to the Shrine around Mary MacKillop's tomb.

The new area behind the tomb provides a gathering space. There is an extra exit which assists in movement around the tomb and a ramp for easy access has been added.
The Shrine continues to be a focus for the prayer of many who come to the chapel to seek Mary MacKillop's intercession or to thank her for blessings received.

The Shrine is still open to the sanctuary and situated on the right hand side of the chapel..
