Ciborium, C.1871. This small ciborium was owned and used
by Fr Julian Tenison Woods. Inscribed on base 'To Father Woods
from the Marist Brothers, St. Joseph's College, Hunters Hill.'
The Marists helped Fr Woods with clothing and other needs
after he left Adelaide in 1871.
Ciborium was a name given in the Byzantine period to a canopy
erected over an altar. By the 16th century the name referred
to the container in which the Blessed Sacrament (Holy Communion)
was reserved. From the permanent collection of Mary MacKillop
Place Museum, North Sydney. |
