IN MEMORY OF IRENE McCORMACK

Short recalling of Irene’s life and death
CALL TO WORSHIP
L: O God, active in our lives
R: Call us to live into our name
L: O God, sending us to the service of others
R: Call us to live into our name
L: Loving, provident God, aware of our weakness
R: Call us to live into our name
(For Evening Prayer)
LIGHTING OF THE EVENING LIGHTS
As the lights are lit and the Easter Candle brought into our midst (with incense if you would like) sing:
Christ be our Light,
Shine in our hearts, shine in the darkness,
Christ be our Light
Shine in your church gathered today
There follows a time of looking back over the day and thanking our God for all that has been part of it
HYMN
(Morning ) Blest be the Lord – Dan Schutte
(Evening) I Found the Treasure (Steadfast Love)
PSALM
Ant: She found the pearl of great price and sold all to buy it
(Morning) Psalm 5
To my words give ear O Lord give heed to my groaning.
Attend to the sound of my cries my King and my God.
It is you whom I invoke O Lord. In the morning you hear me;
In the morning I offer you my prayer, watching and waiting.
You are no God who loves evil; no sinner is your guest.
The boastful shall not stand their ground before your face.
You hate all who do evil; you destroy all who lie.
Deceitful and bloodthirsty people are hateful to you, O Lord.
But I through the greatness of your love have access to your house.
I bow down before your holy temple, filled with awe.
Lead me Lord, in your justice, because of those who lie in wait;
Make clear your way before me.
No truth can be found in their mouths, their heart is all mischief,
Their throat a wide-open grave, all honey their speech.
Declare them guilty O God. Let them fail in their designs.
Drive them out for their many offences, for they have defied you.
All those you protect shall be glad and ring out their joy.
You shelter them; in you they rejoice, those who love your name.
Lord, it is you who bless the upright:
You surround them with favour as with a shield.
(Evening) Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my help; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I shrink?
When evildoers draw near to devour my flesh,
It is they, my enemies and foes, who stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me my heart would not fear.
Though war break out against me even then would I trust.
There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long,
To live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To savour the sweetness of the Lord, to behold God’s temple.
For God makes me safe in his tent in the day of evil.
God hides me in the shelter of his tent, on a rock I am secure.
And now my head shall be raised above my foes who surround me
And I shall offer within God’s tent a sacrifice of joy.
I will sing and make music for the Lord.
O Lord, hear my voice when I call; have mercy and answer.
Of you my heart has spoken: “seek God’s face.”
It is your face O Lord that I seek; hide not your face.
Dismiss not your servant in anger; you have been my help.
Do not abandon or forsake me, O God my help!
Though my mother and father forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
Instruct me Lord in your way; on an even path lead me.
When they lie in ambush protect me from my enemies’ greed.
False witnesses rise against me, breathing out fury.
I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.
In the Lord hold firm and take heart. Hope in the Lord!

“Coming back (to Huasahuasi) I didn’t feel heroic or about to do world shattering things but rather hoping only to give a little encouragement by just choosing to be here and hopefully for the young people… to ‘normalise’ life a little and give them some joy…”

CLOSING PRAYER
We proclaim your mighty deeds, O God,
You did not allow your servant Irene
To be deterred by threats or broken by evil;
Grant that we too may face the trials of this world
With courage and unconquered spirit.
We make this prayer through our Risen Lord Jesus Christ,
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.
