Archbishop John Bathersby’s pilgrimage to Rome has proven a huge success with almost 190 local pilgrims set to converge on Rome for the momentous Canonisation ceremony scheduled at St Peter’s Square on the 17th October this year.
What was originally intended as an anticipated 50-90 ‘Brisbanites’ has snowballed to a convoy of four full coach loads travelling from Venice and Padua via Assisi before a 5 day stay in the Eternal City. Named as patroness of the Archdiocese, Mary has captured the heart of Brisbane which is one of several dioceses, schools and specialist groups planning to make the journey from Australia.
Further to this, pilgrims from across the nation are flooding the official tour website filling a multitude of group pilgrimages also being organized by Harvest Tours, the event’s official tour operator.
The company’s Managing Director Philip Ryall said “this will surely be a great life moment for any pilgrim who makes the journey and is there to witness with their own eyes this inspired moment when Australia welcomes her first saint.”
