From the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart
This Teacher’s Day (28 October) we come together to say ‘thank you’ and celebrate the contribution, achievements and leadership of teachers. We invite you to view a feature on 150 Years of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Education in NSW here.
For newly professed Sr Josephine Mitchell, her first teaching post in 1954 was in the small community of Burringbar located in the top eastern corner of NSW. To celebrate Teachers' Day, view a profile on Sr Josephine, a former teacher and educator here.
Each year in October, the church sets aside one Sunday to focus on World Missions, inviting us to again exercise our priestly ministry of service, both in developing countries and perhaps especially now, reaching out to the needy in our own country. Sr Carmel Pilcher shares a reflection for World Mission Sunday (23 October) here.
Over the first two days of November for the feasts of All Saints (1 November) and All Souls (2 November), we are invited to pray with and for everyone. We can pray with one another and the saints, as we are also reminded to remember and pray for all departed souls. View a reflection by Mary Baynie here.
The pandemic was a time that surprised the world. The Josephites made an effort and still continue with resilience the fight against the pandemic and poverty, following the example of faith, strength and mission of Mary MacKillop. Sr Maria Cecilia Paiva Huaringa reflects here.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Nazareth were approved by the Sacred Congregation for Religious as a Congregation of Pontifical Right on 28 October 1985. Sr Anne Burke provides an account of the years that the Whanganui Sisters of Saint Joseph in Aotearoa New Zealand were seeking Papal Approbation for the Whanganui Foundation here.
You’re invited to a trip around the world with Mary MacKillop Today on Thursday, 3 November 2022 at 4:30pm AEDT! Inspired by Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop, Mary MacKillop Today are working to transform lives with dignity through self-determination. Register here.
