From the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart
"Holy Week begins and ends with drama," shares Sr Rita Malavisi. "When I think of Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday (24 March), three things stand out: The beginning of Holy Week, the importance of processions in our life and the tradition of Walk for Justice for Refugees, and having the courage to walk this journey with Jesus to his cross and passion." Continue reading Sr Rita's reflection here.
Annually in March, we commemorate Earth Hour when we are encouraged to switch off our electric lights, our electronics and conserve energy for one hour. Sr Maureen Salmon says, "When we turn off our lights and electronics on 23 March, let it not just be for that one hour. Let our actions extend into our daily routines. Let us continue to reduce our use of electricity and so lower greenhouse gas emissions and so contribute to the health of our beautiful Earth." View here.
"As followers of Jesus, we are asked to walk humbly on the Earth and to care for the land, the oceans, and all creatures. These themes find expression in the Easter readings as we focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus. We know that our life and death, both physically and spiritually, is intimately tied to creation." The Josephite Laudato Si’ Action Plan Committee invite you continue the Laudato Si’ journey with them and view a Laudato Si' Easter Reflection here.
For the month of March, Pope Francis' prayer intention is for the martyrs of our day, witnesses to Christ. For Sr Mary Dwyer, "The words of the March prayer lead [her] to recall the recent history of Peru in the armed conflict of the late twentieth century – when several priests and religious who stayed to accompany the people they served in rural areas, knowing they risked their lives in doing so, were assassinated." Sr Mary shares a reflection here.
The Josephite Justice Network (JJN) gathering for 2024 was held at Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney from 8-10 March. Josephite Sisters, Companions, and organisational partners, as well as our young JJN team, were all present. Joelle Sassine, a young JJN member, shares "The Josephite Charism in the room was palpable. These spiritual ‘avengers’ reassembled to creatively tackle injustices of the now." We invite you to read more about this special gathering here.
