As we commemorate a decade of Pope Francis’ prophetic encyclical on 24 May, Sr Mary-Ann Casanova PhD, Project Officer for the Josephite Laudato Si’ Action Plan Team, reflects with gratitude on this milestone.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’ and the Laudato Si’ movement,” says Sr Mary-Ann.
“We celebrate the life and legacy of Pope Francis. His messages within Laudato Si’ and Laudate Deum have become part of the growing body of Catholic Social Teaching. Through our work, we will continue Pope Francis’ commitment to care for those made poor, and care for our common home, Earth.”
The 10th anniversary falls in the worldwide Laudato Si’ Week (24 May – 31 May 2025) and presents a unique opportunity for reflection, action, and community engagement in the pursuit of a more sustainable and just world.
“I have read Laudato Si’ many times over the last 10 years and there are several ideas and insights which stand out for me,” continues Sr Mary-Ann.
“One is the sentiment of the Pope where he says that it takes just one good person to restore hope. I like to add a question to that – will I be that person of hope?”
Let us walk together with hope – celebrating what has been and boldly embracing what comes next.
