Renate with her daughters.

Becoming a mother was one of the most gratifying moments in my life, but not every mother shares the same experience.

I feel fortunate as a mother of two beautiful adult daughters. My perspective on motherhood probably stems from growing up in a loving family with a good support network, and my husband and I had the opportunity to work hard to establish a good foundation for our family.

When embarking on motherhood, we might not always feel mentally prepared. We may question whether the timing is right, whether we’re financially stable enough or we may self-doubt our ability to cope with the challenges ahead.

Whatever the circumstance, when a child is born, and you understand that you are holding the most precious gift of creation in your arms, there’s nothing quite like the overwhelming love a mother feels in that moment.

The road to motherhood is unique and special.

A woman, as we understand through God’s perspective, with that innate capability of bringing a human life into the world after nine months gestation, is mind-blowing.

However, motherhood is not always easy. The emotional highs and lows, the ebbs and flows of life, the ongoing responsibilities we face, easily overshadow everything as we go about our daily routines.

For some there may be hiccups along the way, and for women seeking to have children, or mothers with children facing challenges for various reasons, there is hope today.

Thanks to advancements in technology and humanity’s ability to create some ethical cures and innovations, along with programs for women, we are given the hope of still being able to have that same experience of motherhood.

I want to acknowledge the women who struggle to cope from day to day, who struggle to get through life, who are torn between two cultures, who endure constant challenges or abuse, and who find motherhood overwhelming simply because they don’t have peace and support.

Today, find peace in embracing God. Seek a relationship with Him and allow Him to relieve you of all your pain.

Did you know God’s love for you is more than the love a mother has for her child? He said, “I am with you always; to the end of the age.”Matthew 28:18-20

When you find inner peace, it will help guide you through your journey in life, allowing you the opportunity to draw upon that depth and warmth of a mother’s love.

Saint Mary MacKillop, though not a mother herself, showed a deep sense of maternal care and responsibility through her missionary work, by providing education and care for underprivileged children, highlighting how precious children are.

The Sisters of Saint Joseph, inspired by their co-founder Saint Mary MacKillop, continue this work, meeting the needs of disadvantaged children and families with a love that mirrors a mother’s devotion to her own children.

I wish all the mums a Happy Mother’s Day. Open your hearts to God and allow Him to carry you in his arms as you journey through life as a mother.

God bless.
