Responding to Need

Josephite Justice Network

In the spirit of Mary MacKillop, Julian Tenison Woods and the early Josephites we work to reach the people pushed to the edges of society. Members work with two feet of love in justice: with one foot on the ground taking action in communities and the other foot advocating for systemic change.

To respond and confront unjust systems the JJN focusses on five main areas:

  • First Nations Justice
  • People who have sought refuge and seeking asylum
  • Care of Earth and the whole of creation
  • Those oppressed and made poor, especially in our own region
  • Those affected by the crises of violence, inequality and homelessness

Within each focus area and beyond the network, members work with other organisations and individuals to take action and advocate for change.

The presence of the JJN is widespread as members attend events and rallies under the banner of ‘Josephites for Justice’, write to politicians and decision makers, and engage young people in our mission for justice.

“The Josephite Justice Network has become an integral part of my life. I am just one person but I know that I am also part of a much wider network of Josephite people, each of us working in our own way for Justice. It is a network providing spiritual nourishment, shared wisdom, practical expertise, and a capacity to respond quickly as a large group when necessary to injustice when and wherever it raises its ugly head. Such a network gives me the strength and courage to undertake my own work in my own community working with refugees, mentoring young adults in how to represent themselves and others in their workplaces and by working with women to achieve equality in all spheres of their lives.”
