As Josephite Companions we respond to the call to live the charism of Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods in our daily lives in our own unique way. We support one another by friendship, prayer and service to make a difference in our local area and so further the reign of God.Companions’ Mission Statement

Josephite Companions: The Josephite Companion Movement (formerly Associates) stemmed from the teaching of the second Vatican Council with its vision of Church and community. Companions are women and men from all walks of life who are drawn to the spirit of Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods. Josephite Companions are active in ministry in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand as well as in Peru, Timor Leste and Scotland. Being a Josephite Companion is one of four pathways of committing to a Josephite way of life.

Relationship with the Sisters of Saint Joseph: Companions spend time together, walk with and accompany one another: this they do with the Sisters and with their fellow Companions. Together they share the Josephite charism, wanting to make a difference in the world through living the gospel with a Josephite heart. They do this through a focus on Prayer, Friendship and Service.

Journey of Discernment: Aspiring Companions are supported through a period of conversation and discernment within a small group. Their Discovery Program provides the opportunity to explore and deepen one’s understanding of the Josephite story and what being a Companion means. Those who then feel drawn to making a commitment are invited to become Josephite Companions. This takes place within a Commitment ceremony. (Companions do not undertake any canonical obligations and may withdraw at any time.)
