Peter – The Youngest MacKillop

Peter MacKillop.

Born at Merri Creek, Victoria in 1857, the eighth and youngest of the MacKillop children was baptised Peter in his parish church of St Paul’s Coburg. His sister Lexie lived at home, while his oldest sibling Mary was establishing her new Congregation. Peter was loved by all his siblings.

Father Julian Tenison Woods arranged for Peter to be educated at the Jesuit College at Sevenhill in South Australia, supported by Fr Reynolds. He spent breaks with the MacLean family or the Kilsbys on the Murray. Peter, humorous and literate, hated his school life and wrote to Mary telling her so, saying he wanted to go to work. Peter wrote he suffered from fits – we would say epilepsy.

Wellbeing Economy for a Flourishing People and Planet – Fourth Conversation Package

Josephites Launch Fourth Laudato Si’ Conversation Package

The Josephite Laudato Si’ Action Plan Team presents its fourth Conversation Package in the five-part URGENT HOPE series.

Titled Wellbeing Economy for a Flourishing People and Planet, this community and educational resource has been developed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart in collaboration with the Sisters of St Joseph Lochinvar to spark discussion, inform, and inspire people of hope.

The Wellbeing Economy conversation package centres on Pope Francis’ call for a rethink and reset in how society prioritises and manages the needs of all people and the planet. The package defers to biblical notions of flourishing and to the wisdom of Catholic Social Teaching.

The lead author, Sister Adrienne Gallie rsj, points to the rising of many global voices calling for change and offering alternative models of economy. Sr Adrienne has attended international conferences and ministers in wellbeing economy.

Welcome Weekend 2025

Sr Jan Barnett with JAG volunteers.
The Welcome Weekend for refugees and asylum seekers was a short, yet touching time full of different cultures. Getting the chance to spend time with and talk to these inspirational people from all over the globe and to hear their amazing stories is something I will forever be grateful for. The weekend was an opportunity to share peace among differing cultures and to model that peace IS possible if we listen and appreciate everyone’s individual stories. Meghan, JAG Volunteer

In the tradition of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, and as a volunteer of the Josephite Action Group (JAG), we work with people who are on the fringes of our society. We young Josephites are continuing this tradition in many ways, including our recent Welcome Weekend.
